If the European Beta Tradition and the Narrative Delta Tradition provide the pillars and the walls of the Iliad, then the Ionian Epsilon Tradition provides the paint, the furniture, and the ornaments. The influence of the Ionian Epsilon Tradition on the Odyssey is considerably greater than its influence on the Iliad. Apart from describing the Ionian Epsilon Tradition, the last book in the series of the Homeric traditions contains a detailed account of how the Iliad got in a fixed format. It is even possible to find certain verses that witness a disagreement between some of the actors that contributed to this fixation event. It is difficult to say to what extent such improvised quarrels were themselves traditional or unique to the Iliad.
